If you haven’t guessed already, one of the leading resources for custom-built aircraft is the EAA. It not only helps those who want to build their own airplanes, it also works with manufacturers to develop and promote safe aircraft.
Building your own kit aircraft doesn’t mean you automatically get to fly it. You still must have a pilot’s certificate to fly any aircraft. And part of the aircraft construction process requires that the plane be checked for safety before you ever fly it. There are no shortcuts to safe flying.
